Stirlingshire

At the heart of Stirlingshire, and indeed Scotland, is the town of Stirling also known as the Gateway to The Highlands. Stirling was Scotland’s capital city and the home to many Kings and Queens of Scotland due to its strategic importance. The city has been a settlement since the Stone Age and due to its significance, it has been home to many battles, including the battle of Bannockburn, made famous by the movie Braveheart.

The surrounding area of Stirlingshire is beautiful and scenic countryside with many quaint villages. There is plenty to see and do, including Inchmahome Priory which is on the Lake of Menteith and is an Augustinian monastery dating from 1238. Visitors can also enjoy a trip on the steamship along Loch Katrine or visit one of the many country houses and castles.
